It seems this new feature has become more of a nuisance than a usable feature as it gives out far too irrelevant results to choose from and slows down the location bar and whole browser itself. Good thing is it practically speeds by minimizing the number of characters firefox 3 should search for from the text you type in the location bar. This is done by changing the toolkit.autocomplete.richBoundaryCutoff configuration in firefox. By typing about:config in the location bar, and searching for the parameter, you can set toolkit.autocomplete.richBoundaryCutoff to 10 instead of 200 (default). You should notice a dramatic gain in performance when dealing with the location bar.
