FogBugz – Features – Outline Tasks

Creating a detailed project outline is fast and simple in FogBugz. You can create a high-level case for each feature you’re planning to implement, and then fill in the detailed work that needs to be done — the functions you’re going to write, the code you’re going to refactor, the algorithms you’ll need to implement, and so on.

FogBugz allows you to create subcases to represent lower-level tasks. In the case list, subcases appear under their parent cases in a hierarchical outline format. You can even modify the display of the outline by expanding and collapsing different subsections.

Comparing CDN Performance (Part 2) | Ryan Kearney

Last week I wrote an article comparing Amazon S3 and Cloud Front to Rackspace Cloud Files. Since then I have gotten additional requests to compare more content delivery networks. The following is a comparison of Amazon Cloud Front, Rackspace Cloud Files, SimpleCDN, and GoGrid CDN. I tried to cover as many bases as I could. Please let me know if I missed anything.

Flickr Developer Blog » Flipping Out

Feature flags and flippers mean we don’t have to do merges, and that all code (no matter how far it is from being released) is integrated as soon as it is committed. Deploys become smaller and more frequent; this leads to bugs that are easier to fix, since we can catch them earlier and the amount of changed code is minimized.

This style of development isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. We have to restrict it to the development team because occasionally things go horribly wrong; it’s easy to imagine code that’s in development going awry and corrupting all your data. Also, after launching a feature, we have to go back in the code base and remove the old version (maintaining separate versions of all features on Flickr would be a nightmare). But overall, we find it helps us develop new features faster and with fewer bugs.

Official Google Blog: Browser Size: a tool to see how others view your website

To help you understand how everyone sees your website, we created a tool called Browser Size in our 20% time. Browser Size is based on a sample of data from visitors to google.com. Special code collects data on the height and width of the browser for a sample of users. For a given point in the browser, the tool will tell you what percentage of users can see it. For example, if an important button is in the 80% region it means that 20% of users have to scroll in order to see it. If you’re a web designer, you can use Browser Size to redesign your page to minimize scrolling and make sure that the important parts of the page are always prominent to your audience. We hope people will use this tool to make their websites better, in turn making the web better for everyone.
