What happened over the course of the summer was a bit of an eye-opener for me: it turns out that if we keep adding 1,500+ customers each month (we’re at over 30,000 now), six people are NOT going to be enough to support them as well as we want to.

How *Specifically* Did Balsamiq Bootstrap Its Way To $2 Mil In Sales in 18 Months? – with Peldi Guilizzoni | Mixergy – For ambitious upstarts and startups
On June 19, 2008, Peldi launched Balsamiq, a one-man software company that helps people create quick & intuitive mockups. 3 weeks later, his revenue was $4,432. In less than 5 months, he reached $100,000. And 18 months later he crossed the $2 million mark.
In this program, I asked Peldi about the details of how he did it. I wanted to know specifically how he got his first customers. And how he developed the software. And how he got his advisors. And so on. Basically, I was asking everything that someone (like you) who wants to launch hit products would need to know.

Balsamiq Company Blog
As stated on this blog post from 12 months ago, my goal for the year was to hit $400k in revenue, with a stretch goal of $500k. Well, once again I was reminded about how bad I am at forecasting financial results. :)
2009 Gross Revenue: $1,626,528.93
That’s over 4 times my 400k goal and over 3 times my stretch goal.

From Balsamiq Mockup to Flex UI in seconds with WebORF
We worked together with Balsamiq to create a feature which allows you to generate a Flex application based on a mockup. The generated application consists of the client-side MXML/ActionScript as well as server-side code. The client code and MXML renders the same components you used in a mockup, while the server sode provides all the data from the controls in the mockup to the corresponding controls in the Flex application. The integration between Flex and the backend is done with WebORB. The generated code includes support for Java, .NET and PHP.

Note that your mockups are not protected in any way other than by a non-obvious URL, so don’t use this service for “secret” mockups. Only create mockups you would show in public. I can not be held responsible if you create a mockup and your competition figures out how to access it!
